I just wrote a letter to Miss Manners.

And I completely forgot to ask her what the correct title for the male spouse of a man who's been knighted is. (I'm guessing it's the same title as the one for the male spouse of a woman who's been knighted (damed?), but I don't actually know what that is, and I'm sure she would know.)

Spent three hours shoe-shopping today.

There are bronze, tan, gold, silver, copper, grey, green, burgundy, espresso, chocolate, rust, navy, black, and clear plastic shoes. There are even some white ones. There are shoes with bows, weaving, grommets, buckles, big buckles, appliques, flowers, lace overlays, feathers, sequins, braided trim, and ends so pointy you would need to stick your foot in a pencil sharpener. They come with gladiator straps, solid cork soles (decorated sides!), zippers, Mary Jane straps, slingbacks, and open toes.

Meanwhile, cream- or bone-coloured heels with a single texture, no straps, and a closed, rounded toe are apparently rarer than hen's teeth.
