No matter how much you think I'd care
No matter how reasonable an hour it is
No matter how much you want to talk about it
Do not ever call me just to tell me about something you only know about because you've seen it on CNN.

If it's important enough to jangle the phone and startle my big-cat, it's important enough to check your information against at least one other source first (and Fox News doesn't count). I grant you that the information garnered from the other source may be substantially the same. However, the level of uncalled-for hysteria with which the news is relayed will probably be considerably lower, whether because you've had a chance to calm down or because you're not getting your news exclusively from CNN.

If it's not important enough to get at least one other perspective on the story first, it's not important enough to make the phone ring. There is this thing called e-mail, which is conveniently there when I need it. There is this thing called casual conversation, which applies when you have other things to say to me. Learn them. Use them. Love them.

(There is a very short list of people whose judgement I trust enough that this does not apply. This is at least in part because they have never done such a thing to me.)

My usual response to calls after midnight is that either somebody should be dead or somebody is going to be.

And because you are my friend, I am *totally* not offended by being 5001 on your list of people to call in case you are on fire. ;)
